I think that because there is no ego to interfere, animals are good at giving us unconditional positive regard, far better than humans at times.

Charlie was certainly tops there.

Oh Charlie...! I can't believe it's been a year. I remember in the final days, he was too weak to lift his head to drink water, so he just rested it on the side of the bowl. But, he kept falling asleep, nearly drowning himself.

Even at the end, he was making us laugh!

Charlie was so awesome!!! He would wait for me at the stairsteps when he heard the garage, he would spoon my arm and lay his head next to mine on my pillow. He was protective if my roommate (a while back) would come in while i was sleeping. He'd jump in front of me and hiss. He was there when i was heartbroken or mad or dancing in my room..he saw it all. He would hang out on top of the tub, in between my two shower curtains, when i showered. As a stray when i first got to know him, he was so muddy at my doorstep. I told him if he was coming in, he was gonna have to let me bathe him and he did- which is amazing while he was a stray. He was soooo cool!!!!! I doubt i'll ever have a pet as awesome as charlie.
